It is the New Year and some of us are digging through our New Year resolutions and wondering how to fit them in. Some of us figure life is stressful enough without adding to our grief with a resolution.

Whether you’ve made a resolution to eat better in the New Year or are trying to put together better meal choices for yourself, look to technology to help you out. With the advent of Smart Phones end user software applications are required to be easy to use and intuitive. Remember Angry Birds? Couldn’t get much simpler than that.

With the ability of many phones to easily access the same web the home computer does, we can access applications on the web through either our phone or home computer and store our data on the web. Any web-enabled hardware device (home computer, tablet, phone, etc) will allow us to access our data on these special applications with just our user name and password. Our data is safe from everyone else and the use of the application is usually free.

One free application that is offered over the web is Supertracker.usda.gov. The application is free to use and any web-enabled device can access the application. By registering your name and creating your own unique password, the application will save your data allowing you to create a history of your choices, run reports showing the type of nutrition you choose, and displaying information so you can understand where all your calories are going.

The application also allows you to run a variety of reports off your data giving you clear graphic visuals of how you use food. The reports are downloadable in excel, pdf, or word. After seeing how you use food, if you make a decision to change some part of your eating habits, you can establish goals for yourself and have your new data track against your goals. The ability to track physical activity and research nutrient content of foods, before it passes your lips, is also available.

If improving your eating habits is something you want to look at, supertracker.com or another food tracking web-site may be a good option for you.
